Corsica 2018

As part of my time au-pairing, I was lucky enough to be taken on holiday with the family to Corsica for 3 weeks. During these 3 weeks we stayed in 3 different parts of the island; Porto-Vecchio, Pinarello and Calvi. All three places are beautiful, but my favourite place by far was Calvi. Both Porto-Vecchio and Pinarello are on the coast with sandy beaches and clear blue sea, however that’s pretty much it. Because of this I spent 2 weeks on beautiful beaches getting a tan, who can complain!?

Pinarello did have a couple water activities to do such as; Jet Skis, Scuba Diving, Wind Surfing and Boat Trips. I did both Jet Skiing and Scuba Diving for the first time, and they were both insane. I did them both alone and whilst Jet Skiing is fun, doing it alone was kinda boring as there was no one to enjoy it with, and also scary because I had no idea what I was doing and was petrified I was going to throw myself off… luckily I didn’t. It was my first time scuba diving and the thought of deep sea terrified me, so I was shitting myself before going (I nearly cried) but knew I’d regret it if I didn’t go, so I forced myself to go out there. I was on a boat with about 8 other people, all were French, including the instructors, so understanding what I had to do was hard, but I got there. We didn’t all scuba dive at the same time, 4 went down first and we were allowed to snorkel around the boat. Then when it was our turn to scuba dive I was absolutely bricking it, but as soon as I got in the water I forgot everything I was scared about. I even got to do that cool little backflip thing off the boat into the water! Scuba diving was the best experience, you forget about everything and just swim underwater with fish and coral. I would 1000% recommend!!

For the last week we stayed in Calvi, a town on the North West Coast of Corsica. Calvi had a beach just like the last two places, but Calvi had more of a centre, with shops and sights to see, such as the medieval Citadel looking over the town. Calvi was my favourite place in Corsica because there was much more to do and see. Whilst in Calvi I went on a boat trip to Scandola, which is a nature reserve in West Corsica. Scandola has multiple red cliffs with coves and islets. The cliffs had mountain goats living on them which was really cool getting to watch them walk on the cliffs!
